Once again the Queensland Garden Show was a hugely successful event, in our perfect winter weather. The Nambour Showgrounds hosts many wonderful expos throughout the year and this one sees visitors from all around Australia flow through the gates.
WILVOS have been attending the previously called Queensland Garden Expo for around twenty years. It is a great opportunity to promote our wildlife 5441 6200 Hotline in our efforts to rescue, rehabilitate and release orphaned and injured native animals. Each and every animal deserves this assistance.
The volunteers on the WILVOS marquee enjoyed their shifts at the show as much as the visitors. Many people came to ask questions about wildlife, or to tell their own stories about native animals in their garden. Children and adults came to pat the ‘possum’, only to find out it was actually a puppet! It was a surprise to find out that one of our WILVO members is actually a trained and accomplished puppeteer.
It is always inspiring to see the movement towards growing native plants, whether on suburban blocks or acreage areas. Gardening is just so much easier when plants, indigenous to the area, are planted. Whether trees, shrubs, grasses or water plants they grow so quickly in their own native environment.
Our thanks to the Sunshine Coast Council for providing a marquee for us in the Council’s “Backyard Living” corner of the Garden Show. It is always a popular area for visitors each year.
