Emergency Hotline: 07 5441 6200

As our native animals keep finding themselves in all types of precarious situations we sometimes forget just how special they are and what an impact we have on their lives.  Our 5441 6200 WILVOS Hotline is a constant reminder.

Once again I had a visitor,  from New Zealand this time, who commented that  many Australians just don’t seem to appreciate how unique their wildlife is.  This is a common reaction also from visitors to Australia from Europe who are often  horrified to see domestic cats roaming around and killing native animals.  Having lost so much wildlife in their own  countries, they think that Australia may have learnt from the global mistakes, especially since we have so many special animals that are unique to Australia.

WILVOS encourage more people to become members, even if just to attend workshops and learn about the various species.  We are always desperate for new carers in all areas, especially with so much housing development happening.  Our wildlife carers all began knowing little or nothing about native animals but when working with our experienced carers they soon gather knowledge and confidence.

At our last induction only a few weeks ago, one lady and her adult son both joined and showed instant interest in learning, and displayed great commonsense and initiative.  Having always been animal lovers, they proved their interest by finding suitable cages/transport baskets  and doing the online possum workshop.  They now have their first possum in care, follow all instructions in the paperwork and always ring for advice.  Very valuable carers, but we need more all over the coast.

Visit our website and become a member for only $20 per year.  Some people choose to slowly take on other involvements.  It is up to the individual.  Many work full time or part-time so full-time caring isn’t always an option, but any help is appreciated.
