Emergency Hotline: 07 5441 6200

How lovely to have a week away! No calls to me through the WILVOS 5441 6200 Hotline. Sometimes we need a break.

Watching a great variety of native birds in their natural habitat, and of  course some eastern grey kangaroos, is delightful when no care is needed.  Fortunately there were no orphaned or injured wildlife needing a wildlife carer.

Reality soon hit on the return home and within twenty-four hours the chaos was beginning.  Possums, kangaroos and birds were soon rolling in the door.  One late afternoon, after a lovely family birthday get-together, I had to go to Eumundi Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre to pick up a possum.  They had  done a wonderful job of getting this animal all healthy and happy.  On the way home there was a magpie flapping around in the middle of the road.  Another caring lady, who saw the bird get hit, also stopped to help.  She passed the bird to me and I finally made it home

Soon after, a call came for a kookaburra and it was delivered to my door. This lovely couple knew their local kookaburras and they came in around the house each afternoon.  This particular bird flew in with the others but was unable to perch.  It just slumped so they were able to catch it. These wonderful, observant people knew they had to do something to help the bird.

Our WILVO members have just enjoyed a reptile workshop with Martin Fingland of Geckoes Wildlife.  Everyone loved it.  Martine gave us lots of insights into the care and handling of blue-tongued lizards, water dragons, frogs and turtles. There was also some  information on snakes, but these  are handled by those who have special permits to do so.
