Emergency Hotline: 07 5441 6200

It’s been a busy couple of weeks for WILVOS following an Induction Day for new members.  This was followed up with a Çaring for Birds workshop in the Yandina School of Arts Hall.  Thanks Sharon, everyone really enjoyed it and learned so much! One of the best parts of being a wildlife carer is sharing knowledge with each other and helping new carers.  It is great to see new volunteers on  our 5441 6200 Hotline team.

The community members who have worked on the Yandina School of Arts Hall have done an amazing job.  The small hall at the back is unrecognizable.  WILVOS love to use it for small workshops as it has a cosy, welcoming feel.

What would we do without  volunteers in our community?  So much more is achieved with so much less outlay.  The stage inside the main hall looks amazing.  The kitchens are great. So many youngsters participate in events at the hall, along with a variety of community organizations.  Thank you to all involved in the extensive renovation.  It will be a sad day for Yandina should approval be granted for a service station across from the Yandina School of Arts Hall.  One of the busiest intersections in town just with the present ‘through’ traffic, a service station will make it noisy for those using the hall, and lessen the parking options.  Let’s hope sanity prevails!

Our next training day for members is a possum workshop and we have certainly had a large number of possums and gliders come into care for rehabilitation over the last months.  It has not been a good year for ringtail possums, with so many orphaned ‘twins’ coming into care.  They are very lonely if they come in just by themselves. They soon settle into a group of four or five, which  resembles their numbers in their family drey.  With their special marsupial milk formula and plenty of fresh new-growth leaftip these little ringtail possum joeys thrive.

Let’s hope the remainder of the year will be kind to our wildlife.
