Emergency Hotline: 07 5441 6200

Beautiful sunshine! Is it really  true that we are looking at a week’s fine weather?  It reminds me that I take our usual glorious Queensland weather for granted!

The native animals will be pleased.  The WILVOS 5441 6200 Hotline has shown a trend of animals going to shelter anywhere they can find.  It often brings them into conflict with domestic pets, which is not the best scenario.

One of our lovely volunteers visits schools to talk to children about domestic pets and native animals living in the nearby environment and it is lovely to see the positive response from students.  They listen intently and are interested in the ways they can help both  wildlife and their pets.  Any schools interested may contact   These presentations are of course free of charge.  Our young are the future of our wildlife.

I have a little wallaby joey in care at the moment.  The property owners said their dogs don’t hurt the wallabies and kangaroos.  They just chase them!  It is difficult to determine which emotion is the strongest – anger or sadness at this cruelty. It is heartbreaking to think of all the joeys that are ejected because their mother has been chased by dogs.  They often don’t get reunited with Mum, and if not found and taken into experienced care quickly they suffer a slow death in the wild.

Now that the elections are over, it is hoped that our environment and our wildlife are given serious consideration in future decisions.  Protection of habitat and feral animal control is of utmost importance if we wish to do something about Australia’s  disastrous rate  of wildlife extinction.
